Report Cards and a New Bike

March is here all rainy and blustery...in like a lion...hopefully out like a lamb? Please?!

It's also report card time and I've only managed to write half of them.  Each comment is taking me forever.  I want to make sure I'm writing positive comments interlaced with helpful tips for parents to support their children.  Thought I would take a break and write up a quick non-stitchy post!

This quote is at the forefront of my mind as I write these reports.

"Let the student’s strengths and not the disability define who they are as a
person” (Shaywitz, 2003)

So important to remember this because often, we focus too much on what the students can't do instead of what they can do.

I really wish cats could write reports....

Just this morning, my husband went out and bought us two new bikes!! They are really good bikes and the price was right!  Check out my new ride!!

It's so light and the tires are very slick.  We had to test drive them, but got caught in a torrential downpour.  Not the best idea!

Just before the storm.  Very murky river.

That's it.  No more procrastinating....I'll be back after March 8th...when the reports are due.

Hugs to all

Good luck with those report cards. I can tell from what you are saying that you really care about your students and work hard to be supportive and loving to them. We need more teachers like you!! Nice bike! Bummer about the rain though. Now tell Titus to help with the report cards. :D

What a great quote! You sound like your are a marvelous teacher ~ your students are lucky to have you. And you are lucky to have Titus to help you!
Love the bike ~ I'm sure you all will have many adventures.

"Let the student’s strengths and not the disability define who they are as a person”. I am going to write that in my journal. A very good thought to hold in our heart.

I really like that you are taking the time tap into the potential that each of your students has in abundance, but more so that you have the drive to do so, which is supported by a loving attitude - if I had children, I would hope they would be lucky enough to have a teacher like you!

Oh Anne! What a special teacher you are. God has really placed you just where you need to be right now. My brother has a learning disability. I know what a difference the teachers can make. So much better to encourage and lift up than to discourage and put a tender heart down. God bless you and your important work Anne. I have thanked God for you this morning.♥

We miss you, Anne! Good luck with the report cards. It's so great that you're taking the time to write individual comments. I wish I had the patience to work with children, but I really don't. Cheers!

In my get rid of it all mode, I came across my report cards, had a few memories of the teachers that signed them, and finally let them go. I'm going to be 62 so I guess it's time!

What a lovely bike - as a consummate urban cyclist I heartily approve :-)

I remember it well Anne, I used to dread writing reports each year. Ours were written during the whole month of May and I used to sit and gaze outside at the garden wishing I could be out there instead of stuck inside. I truly don't miss it. It's a good feeling when the last one is done though.

I hope you are going to get a chance to enjoy the sunshine today - isn't it just awesome? I too have work to do today, unfortunately! If I'd known it would be sunny today I would've done the work yesterday (or so I think now!).

Good luck with the report cards. You are thoughtful and caring of your students! Just think though, Spring Break is just around the corner for you!

Doesn't sound like fun to write report cards. Reminds me of employee review time where I work. I like that you take it so seriously though.

Cool bikes just in time for spring!

I wish every teacher could be like you, Anne--thoughtful and caring and truly wanting the best for your students! Good luck to you (and Titus) in your grading--it must be really time consuming.

I love your new bike--I'm in the market for one myself. Any pointers you can pass along when you have some free time?

Good Luck with the report cards Anne. Hopefully there'll be more stitching and biking time after :)

Urg, report card time! Last year I tought at a magnet High School and they would only let us use pre-programmed comments (not very individualized) and it still took forever! Good Luck!

Good luck with the report cards, too many here are cut-and-paste from a central stock of phrases. It's nice to see personalised ones.
Our Head's favourite description is "a real character" to describe a more "lively" child LOL.

I love re-reading mine and reading between the lines!

How nice of Titus to 'help' with the report cards!

Hope you get to enjoy your new bike soon
